Writing on the wall for Neal Maupay as multi-million Everton transfer news emerges on Tuesday
The problem for Sean Dyche and Everton has been very obvious for some time now, they do not score enough goals to fight higher up the Premier League table.
Last season the Toffees avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the Premier League season, with their 1-0 home win over Bournemouth enough to keep them in the division.
Only one side, Wolves, scored fewer goals than Dyche’s side and this was a huge reason as to why they found themselves in a relegation battle. They have started the current campaign in the same form, failing to score in any of their opening three top-flight 
As a result, they have acted accordingly in the transfer market to try and avoid continuing in the same way and consequently ending up in another relegation dogfight.
Striker Beto has been brought in from Serie A side Udinese, with the club taking to their official Twitter page to make the announcement official on Tuesday (29 August).
However, his arrival could now spell the end of the road for a striker already at Goodison Park, Neal Maupay. Having arrived from Premier League rivals Brighton just last season in a £15million switch (BBC Sport, 26 August 2022), his time on Merseyside could now be ending very prematurely.
As reported by Sky Sports News in their live transfer centre (29 August, 12:30 pm), there could now be some movement in regard to a potential move for Maupay in the final days of the summer transfer window.
If he is to leave this week, it will be seen as yet another waste of money and poor recruitment decision by the board at Goodison Park. It is clear the 27-year-old did not align with former manager Frank Lampard or current boss Dyche’s style of play.
Due to this, he struggled massively throughout his debut season on Merseyside. He scored just one goal in addition to one assist during his 27 league appearances for the Toffees.
The striker has started just once so far this season and it is hard to see him doing so again following the arrival of Beto. For his sake, and the clubs, it would be best to move him on so that he could look to revive his career elsewhere while Everton get him off the wage bill.
In other Everton news, a journalist has suggested that another star is “more than likely to leave” before the window closes.
