Arteta’s latest focus makes him yearning for a new contract at Arsenal.
According to a source, Mikel Arteta thought it should be a priority to keep the defender for the long term, so Arsenal will look into offering Benjamin White a new contract.
White joined Arsenal from Brighton in 2021 and has played for them ever since. His contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in 2026, but if they get their way, he might stay at the team much longer.
The Daily Mirror reports that Arteta is pleading with White to make Arsenal his long-term home. The next player to sign a new contract in north London is the England international.
Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Reiss Nelson, Aaron Ramsdale, and Martin Odegaard, as TEAMtalk had predicted, have all signed new contracts with Arsenal in recent months.
White still has three years left on his contract, so there is no pressing need for them to lock him in. In the long run, a new contract may both reward the 25-year-old and make it obvious where he will be spending the peak of his career.
White has not missed a minute for Arsenal so far this season in the Premier League or in his one appearance each in the Community Shield and the Champions League. Additionally, he began their Carabao Cup victory at Brentford.
Over the past year or two, White, who originally joined as a center-back, has adapted to a right-back position, especially since William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes were paired up centrally.
Jurrien Timber, another player who can play in the same two roles as White, was also purchased by Arsenal this summer, but due to his chronic injury, he won’t prevent the former Leeds loanee from playing for the time being.
After playing in every league game for Arsenal last season, when they finished as runners-up to Manchester City, White is getting close to the milestone of 100 appearances for the club.
