32 community protection notices (CPN) were issued by the police in September as part of a crackdown on anti-social behavior in Coventry, which included stopping alleged drug traffickers and users near Charterhouse Park.
The St. Michael’s neighborhood policing unit, which patrols the heart of Coventry, issuing the CPNs.
They have also been used to target aggressive beggars, street workers causing anti-social behaviour in residential areas and youngsters congregating around Millennium Place causing anti-social behaviour.
Last Friday the police’s Op Speedy activities focused on Charterhouse Park and included high-visibility patrols in the area.Insp Simon Finney, from the St Michaels team said : “The orders are a really valuable tool for local officers when they are dealing with people whose behaviour is having a negative impact on the local community.
“CPNs allow us to address the problems that we know seriously impact our communities and the visitors to and residents of the city center.”
“By using them, we have control over who enters the area and anyone attempting to cause a large disruption, and we can prevent them from engaging in illegal and anti-social conduct.
The warnings “are a significant deterrent and give us the power of arrest if there are criminal matters” if they are violated.
