The third signing to Sunderland Women during the summer transfer season has been confirmed.

Keira Flannery completed a season-long loan contract with Sunderland, and Mel Reay thinks the club have acquired one of the best young midfielders in the Championship for themselves.

Flannery came from West Ham United, where she spent the previous season on loan at Reading, where she played a key role in a 1-0 victory over Sunderland.

“Keira joins us on a season-long loan from West Ham,” Reay said.

“We are thrilled to have her skills join the team; we think she is one of the best young midfielders in the Championship.”

“I’m really happy, can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to hit the ground running,” the 18-year-old said, explaining how she had been persuaded to make the move in conversations with the club’s administration. I was highly impressed with Sunderland’s approach, philosophy, and style of play.

After attacker Eleanor Dale and goalkeeper Demi Lambourne, Flannery is Sunderland’s third window addition. On September 8, the Black Cats will take on Birmingham City away at St Andrews in a challenging test to begin their Women’s Championship campaign.
