Lionel Messi has spoken out following Argentina’s contentious loss to Morocco.

Despite being one of the tournament favorites with a lineup that included Julian Alvarez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Enzo Fernandez, Argentina fell behind 2-0 in Saint-Etienne thanks to two goals from Soufiane Rahimi.

Giuliano Simeone pulled one back for Argentina in the 68th minute, while Cristian Medina appeared to have leveled the score in the 106th minute.

The referee added 15 minutes of stoppage time, during which Medina appeared to score an equaliser in the 16th minute following a frantic scramble.

However, the game was marred by further controversy as missiles such as bottles and plastic cups poured down from the stands, and some people entered the pitch, prompting the referee to blow the whistle, causing the match to be suspended without a definitive result.

Eventually, it was announced that both teams would play three more minutes without any fans.

Both teams returned two hours later to play three extra minutes in a stadium that had now been cleared of spectators.

After play resumed, Medina’s score was subsequently disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

Lionel Messi, who previously won gold for Argentina at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, appeared to express his unhappiness on Instagram.

He used the phrase “Insolito,” which means “unbelievable,” coupled with a surprised emoji to express his disbelief over the events that occurred.
