Paik Seung-ho and Jordan James suited up in midfield for Birmingham City against Walsall.
Chris Davies is optimistic that Paik Seung-ho and Jordan James, Birmingham City’s all-star midfield duo, can stay together in League One.
Wales’ 20-year-old James and South Korea’s 27-year-old Paik have played in five preseason games between them. On Saturday, Blues defeated Walsall 1-0. Paik dominated from deep, and James’ strong run past Walsall’s defense set up Alfie May’s winning goal.
It was assumed that Blues would find it difficult to retain Paik and James this summer because of their international careers, but as of right now, both are expected to start the League One opener on August 10 against Reading. James in particular has been receiving a lot of attention; Ipswich Town is the most recent team to be connected to him.
Davies is realistic about the circumstances, but he wants to keep James and Paik at Blues. When asked if the pair will stay together, Davies said, “I hope so.”
“I sincerely hope so, but the transfer window is a dynamic beast and you never quite know what’s around the corner.” We’ll monitor its progress throughout the next weeks.
“We need to assemble a team with depth so that we have a group of excellent players who can step in and perform at any time, rather than simply two or three highly important individuals. That is what I am always focusing on.
Following the midfielder Marc Leonard’s arrival from Brighton earlier this week, the Blues have already welcomed eight new players to their roster. If James and Paik stay, Leonard will fight with them for a midfield position.
