On Saturday, July 6, of this year, Sophie Jayne Wynne Evans, 22, was struck by an approaching train close to Steanard Lane in Mirfield. She passed away right there.

The court was told that Sophie had been detained under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act at the Priestley ward at Dewsbury and District Hospital, Dewsbury.

At Bradford coroners’ court on Friday morning, a brief account of the terrible events leading up to her death was read out for the start of an inquest.

The Priestley ward at Dewsbury and District Hospital, Dewsbury, was where Sophie was being held under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act, the court was informed.

She had ‘fled the hospital’ and was taken to the Accident and Emergency department on July 6th morning, the court heard, for treatment of’self-harm wounds’.

She blocked the path of a train between Mirfield Station and Mirfield East at 11:03 a.m.

Sophie was born on July 5, 2002, in Huddersfield, and had been residing in Dewsbury.
