The Warriors are looking to deal for another sharpshooter after losing Klay Thompson.

The Warriors and Sixers are reportedly hammering out the specifics of a possible deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who also adds that the Warriors are having serious talks regarding a sign-and-trade that would send sharpshooter Buddy Hield to Golden State.

Klay Thompson, who is sixth all-time in made three-pointers (2,481), is leaving Golden State this offseason, but Hield isn’t far behind him on that record either, ranking No. 22 with 1,924 of his own. In his eight years of professional basketball, Hield has made 40.0% of his 7.6 three-pointers a game.

Hield exceeded the usual 82-game cap in 2023–24 by playing in a league-high 84 regular season games, thanks to a midseason trade that transferred him from Indiana to Philadelphia. In 25.7 minutes per game, he averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 38.6 percent from beyond the arc for the Pacers and Sixers.

Although Hield doesn’t really stand out in many other parts of the game, as I noted in that piece, his exceptional shooting earned him the No. 24 free agent on our top-50 list. This year, he was almost unloaded for non-rotation players and two second-round selections by a Pacers team that advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. He then played a little role in the Sixers’ opening-round playoff series against the New York Knicks. This diminished his worth even further.

Even so, the Warriors may find him to be a good investment given the circumstances (including his contract and the piece or pieces that go to Philadelphia). It’s not clear if Golden State would pay any salaries in exchange for the suggested sign-and-trade.
