Steelers :He said NO ‘I ain’t going to Cleveland’

Last week, a misconstrued comment by Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward stirred some controversy. In the midst of his continuing contract dispute with Pittsburgh, he appeared to indicate that he was open to joining the rival Cleveland Browns instead of the Steelers.

This is the entire passage that initiated it:

Next year, Heyward will be concerned about his future. He doesn’t plan on signing a contract with the Steelers before the current campaign ends or even before the upcoming offseason. However, he’s thinking about wearing colors other than black and gold for the first time.

Could you picture Heyward wearing the Cleveland Browns’ orange and brown uniforms? Though it may sound sacrilegious, you should never give up.

“My family is still in Cleveland. Heyward remarked, “My wife is from Cleveland. “We’ll see. Right now, I’m not trying to think about any of that.

To put it mildly, Steelers fans were not pleased with the comment. That should come as no surprise given that the Browns are arguably the Steelers’ most hated opponent.

Later, Kaboly stated that Heyward was joking on The Fan Morning Show.

Later, Heyward addressed the matter directly in a response to supporters on X, the former name for Twitter.

“Brother I will not be visiting Cleveland. When my wife saw the news, she nearly passed out. It was a lighthearted prank,” he wrote.

He had replied with a dismissive GIF a few days prior to another fan bringing up the subject.

It appears that Heyward won’t be moving from Pittsburgh to Cleveland very soon, so supporters shouldn’t be concerned. He has insisted, nevertheless, that he will continue to play in 2025 and beyond, even if the Steelers decide not to re-sign him.
