Utility player Harry Perryman has fulfilled a lifelong aspiration by signing with Collingwood as a free agent at the start of the 2024 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period. Speaking exclusively to collingwoodfc.com.au, Perryman expressed his excitement about moving from the GWS GIANTS to the club he has passionately supported since childhood.
Reflecting on his decision, Perryman shared, “When the chance presented itself, I knew I had to take it. I’m eager for this next chapter.” Growing up, he and his brothers often played in their backyard decked out in Collingwood jerseys, dreaming of performing at the iconic MCG in front of enthusiastic crowds. “While I cherished my time at the GIANTS and formed lasting relationships there, I’m genuinely thrilled to join Collingwood, meet my new teammates, and earn their respect.”
Throughout the past year, Perryman’s free agency status attracted considerable attention from various clubs, but his emotions ultimately guided his choice. “It was a complex time with interest from multiple clubs, and Collingwood emerged as a contender later on,” he explained. “Despite the background negotiations, my heart consistently led me to Collingwood. It was a challenging decision, yet it felt right for me.”
Perryman emphasized his commitment to teamwork, stating, “I take pride in being the best teammate I can be, focusing on what I can do to enhance the team’s performance. Whether I’m playing in the midfield or defense, I’m dedicated to fulfilling my role.” He acknowledged that while his approach might seem straightforward, his dedication to teamwork is unwavering, and he looks forward to embodying that spirit in the years to come.
Looking back to 2010, when Perryman was just 11 years old, he fondly remembers celebrating Collingwood’s long-awaited premiership victory. “I was young during those Grand Finals against the Brisbane Lions, but the thrill of the 2010 Premiership was unforgettable. My brothers and I went wild during the draw, and then the victory was pure euphoria,” he recalled. “It’s surreal to think I’ll be wearing the black and white in the upcoming years.”
Perryman also reflected on his experiences facing Collingwood in two Preliminary Finals at the MCG, which featured the spirited Magpie Army. “Those matches were electrifying, and the atmosphere created by the Colling
