The defender was best known for a long spell with Hearts in Scotland, and also played for Rangers.
Before joining the local rivals FBK Kaunas, Marius Alikas made his senior football debut with Inkaras Kaunas in his native Lithuania. He spent a season on loan with FK Silute before returning to FBK Kaunas and making a name for himself. He made his debut for Lithuania in 2005 and eventually earned 25 caps, scoring once against Slovakia.
Alikas was one of numerous players that transferred on loan from FBK Kaunas to Heart of Midlothian for the 2006–07 season, both teams being owned by the infamous Vladimir Romanov. The most productive of these loanees, Aliakas, made his move permanent before the 2007–2008 season.
Hearts are the club most associated with Žaliūkas. In seven seasons the Lithuanian made 212 appearances, scoring 14 goals. Helping the Edinburgh side win the Scottish Cup in 2012 with a 5-1 win at Hampden Park against city rivals Hibernian.
Alikas secured a contract with Leeds after a fruitful trial period, and on November 1st of that year, he made his debut against Yeovil Town. Alikas began his time at Leeds in fine form, made himself a regular in the lineup, and was rewarded with a contract extension to carry him through the 2014–15 season. However, a decline in form caused him to leave the club after a mutual contract termination at the conclusion of the 2013–14 season.
