After the preseason friendly loss to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, Derby County manager Paul Warne spoke with reporters.

Paul Warne talked about Derby County’s loss to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, as the Rams traveled to Shropshire this weekend to continue their preseason friendly campaign. While recognizing that there was room for improvement in certain areas of the performance in the final week before the season kicked off, Warne was nevertheless pleased with parts of what he witnessed during the 2-1 defeat.

Although Warne has added seven new players this summer, Derby is far from finished; at the end of the last campaign, they let go of players like Dwight Gayle, Conor Hourihane, Korey Smith, Louie Sibley, and Joe Wildsmith, among others. As a result, the transfer push is still going strong.

Derby returns to the Championship this next week, with Barnsley and Real Valladolid up against Blackburn on Friday, August 9. Here’s what Warne had to say about being ready, Corey Blackett-Taylor, and when the transfer deadline was.

Overall, I was rather satisfied. We were aware that we would occasionally be exposed as a result of the way we played our midfield to provide players more playing time. Ozzy, David, and Tom all had free roles, which is great when you have the ball but makes it more difficult to get it back. We were fine with that.
