Gabriel Jesus responds to Ederson ‘push incident’ during Arsenal win

Gabriel Martinelli’s stunning winner against Manchester City before the break allowed Arsenal to maintain their perfect record in the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus has played down reports of a spat between himself and Brazil teammate Ederson after their altercation during Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Manchester City. The 26-year-old helped the Gunners earn a crucial three points against his former side to move top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal passed City into second place after Gabriel Martinelli, who entered the game as a substitute, scored the game’s winning goal in the closing moments. Jesus completed a £45 million transfer from the Etihad Stadium to join Mikel Arteta at Arsenal in 2021.

On Sunday afternoon during the match against City, Jesus and Ederson got into a fight as emotions ran high. The 26-year-old was pushed by the City goalie as Jesus attempted to prolong the game and assist Arsenal by holding onto the ball.

Jesus was questioned about the confrontation with Ederson while the two were serving together in Brazil during the international break. The Arsenal striker told reporters: “I have a good relationship, not

“Ederson and I spent a lot of time together at City and we were very happy. He knows how fond I am of him and I also know how fond he is of me.

“But on the pitch he defends his team and I defend mine. It was a moment when we [Arsenal] were winning and it’s not easy to beat them [City].

“We were winning and I held the ball there. Anyway, he ended up giving me a push, but afterwards everything was normal. We came together talking. That’s it.”

Arsenal will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after the international break as they look to continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League. Jesus will prove to be a crucial player for Arteta this season if he can maintain his fitness as he looks to bring a title to the Emirates Stadium after his success with City.
