Newcastle now think 18-year-old can play for the first-team, Dan Ashworth really rates him
Dan Ashworth is working behind the scenes to prepare Newcastle United for the future.
Since taking over as Newcastle’s sporting director, Ashworth has already had a significant impact, especially at the young level.
Numerous kids that the organization believes have the potential to become stars of the first team have been signed. This summer’s arrival of Cathal Heffernan and Newcastle’s significant investment in Yankuba Minteh provided evidence of that. He made his Champions League debut on Tuesday night while on loan at Feyenoord, where he is having a fantastic time.
Last summer, Newcastle was also highly active, and one of Ashworth’s new recruits was actually involved in the Magpies’ UEFA Youth League loss to AC Milan on Tuesday.
High aspirations are held by Newcastle for Charlie McArthur.
18-year-old For the Newcastle Under-19s match in Milan, Charlie McArthur was selected in Ben Dawson’s starting eleven.
The young Magpies suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to their Italian opponents.
Although McArthur, who partnered with the aforementioned Heffernan at center defense, looked helpless against the dynamic young forwards for AC Milan, Newcastle has a lot of faith in him.
The Chronicle reports that Newcastle believes McArthur will eventually be eligible to play for Eddie Howe’s first squad.
They continue by saying that Ashworth had a “huge role” in luring the Scottish defender from Kilmarnock to Tyneside. He obviously has a lot of respect for the young man, and the club now believes he may someday succeed in the Premier League.
When he first came, Ashworth was hoping to sign young players who could advance through the ranks and make an impact on the first team. The club will eventually save millions of pounds thanks to this tactic in the transfer market.
We can only hope that McArthur does wind up saving Newcastle millions and that he eventually gets to play for Eddie Howe’s senior team in the years to come.
