Jaguars vs. Dolphins postponed when wide receiver Daewood Davis left the game injured.
Following a collision in the fourth quarter that resulted in wide receiver Daewood Davis being stretchered off the field, the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars preseason game was halted on Saturday night.
The Dolphins said that Davis is awake and able to move his limbs. Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville is evaluating him.
Trying to grab a ball from rookie quarterback James Blackmon, Davis was struck during the Dolphins’ 31-18 loss to the Jaguars in the fourth quarter.
Davis was pushed facedown on the grass by the blow, and he stayed there until someone hoisted him up onto a backboard and carried him off the field.
According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques and Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel stated that the team was “hurting but relieved” to hear the team’s update on Davis and that the decision to halt the game was correct “without a shadow of a doubt.”
“Playing football was not on their minds. We felt that playing football was out of place,” McDaniel remarked.
Davis, a Western Kentucky native and undrafted free agent, was signed by the Dolphins in April.
