CLEMSON — Clemson defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart has been suspended from team activities following an arrest on a gun charge earlier this month.

Online court records indicate the rising redshirt senior Capehart, a native of Hartsville, faces a charge of “carrying or displaying firearms (on) school property,” stemming from an arrest last week.

Clemson University Police’s daily crime log lists an arrest that occurred at 8:17 p.m. on Feb. 6 on 188 Old Greenville Highway, which is near Clemson’s soccer stadium, Historic Riggs Field, for “unlawful possession of a firearm on school property” and “failure to exercise due care” while driving a motor vehicle.

The university released a statement regarding Capehart, saying “We have been aware of the facts of the case from the start, and he is not presently participating in team activities while awaiting completion of all legal and university processes.”

Capehart has 32 tackles, including nine for loss, in 34 career games with the Tigers. One of the team’s most improved players down the stretch in 2023, Capehart was slated for a significant role at defensive tackle this coming season following the departures of Ruke Orhorhoro and Tyler Davis to the NFL.
