Report: Texas Safeties Jerrin Thompson and Kitan Crawford Enter NCAA Transfer Portal – Tracker
JAN 5 THOMPSON & CRAWFORD GONE According to reports from Inside Texas, Longhorns safeties Jerrin Thompson and Kitan Crawford have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after four years each with the program
Thompson had 38 tackles, seven passes defended and three interceptions this season, taking one of those picks back for a touchdown.
As a senior, Crawford had 24 total tackles and one tackle for loss, with an interception in the Big 12 Championship game.
These decisions hardly come as a surprise for the Longhorns with their playing time and production decreasing throughout the year in favor of freshman Derek Williams and Michael Taaffe.
And with Xavier Filsaime and Andrew Mukuba also on their way to Austin, both of their roles were likely set to decrease even more.
Third-string QB Charles Wright, also entered the portal on Friday.
JAN 5 CARTER TO PORTAL The Texas Longhorns are set to lose their third defensive lineman this week, with defensive tackle Trill Carter planning to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per reports from Inside Texas.
In his first season with the Horns after transferring from Minnesota, Carter had nine tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a sack.
The Longhorns also lost T’Vondre Sweat to the NFL/graduation, with Byron Murphy also declaring for the draft on Thursday.
Texas did some good news on their defensive front this week, with Alfred Collins electing to stay in school for another season thanks to a waiver.
DEC 19 KRISTOPHER ROSS ENTERS PORTAL Texas Longhorns defensive lineman Kristopher Ross has entered the transfer portal, per reports Tuesday from On3.
Ross reportedly left the team in late October and his player profile was removed from the Texas Athletics website.
He was a member of Texas’ 2022 recruiting class out of North Shore (Houston), and posted just one total tackle this season. Ross had two tackles last season, both of which came in the season-opening win over Louisiana-Monroe.
Ross was carted off in the 31-10 win over the Wyoming Cowboys on Sept. 16 after suffering an elbow injury and didn’t appear in a game after that.
DEC 15 MAALIK MURPHY TAKING VISITS After announcing on Wednesday that he’s entering the portal, Texas Longhorns transfer quarterback Maalik Murphy is reportedly already setting some official visits.
Per reports from 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, Murphy is taking visits to Duke, Oregon State and Baylor.
He’s visiting the Blue Devils today (Friday) and will then head back to Texas to see the Bears in Waco on Saturday followed by a cross-country trip to Corvallis on Sunday.
Murphy finished his Texas career 2-0 as a starter while going 40 of 71 passing for 477 yards, three touchdowns and three picks.
DEC 14 BARON TO ATX? According to reports from On3, the Texas Longhorns are a team to watch for talented Tennessee transfer defensive lineman, Tyler Baron.
Per the report, Baron will visit the Longhorns on Saturday ahead of the Early Signing Period.
Baron spent four years with the Volunteers, racking up 13.5 sacks and 102 tackles from his edge position.
Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss are also considered in the running for Baron, who will also visit Ole Miss on Thursday.
DEC 12 BURKS TO OU One of the Texas Longhorns’ top targets in the transfer portal is now heading to an arch-rival.
Former Purdue wide receiver transfer, Deion Burks, who was set to visit the Longhorns this week, committed to the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday, he announced on Twitter.
