SHOCKING NEWS: He has Detroit Lions in His heart! confirming His desire of leaving……
Josh McDaniels was left a ‘shell of himself’ after Raiders players ripped into him during ‘intense’ meeting just five days before he was out of the job
Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels’ firing reportedly came just days after a brutal meeting with his players.
According to the NFL network, McDaniels had an intense meeting with players and coaches on October 26, five days before he was fired. The report states that McDaniels was ‘akin to a bystander’ after getting begged to change his ways.
The report states that concerns included long meetings, overcorrecting mistakes and blaming players for play-calling issues.
After the meeting, McDaniels was a ‘shell of himself’ as the comments led him to allow players to self-correct while being hands-off in handling mistakes.
On October 31, Raiders owner Mark Davis let go of McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the mid-season reset had an $85m price tag but Davis did not a have a problem spending the money for the team’s sake.
‘Unfortunately, I had great hopes for Josh and Dave,’ Davis told ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. ‘It just seemed we were going in the wrong direction. So, with the trade deadline, I just felt it was time to make a change, time to make a move.’
Despite being 3-5 following a loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday, the Raiders were in good spirits in practice without McDaniels’ presence.
The Athletic reported that the Raiders appeared looser– playing basketball and wrestling in training.
‘It’s more of a mindset that we’re trying to … not force, but just have moving forward to be as positive as possible,’ said wide receiver Davante Adams. ‘There is a definitive shift now where we can say things are different and we have an opportunity to change it.’
The Raiders, who are third in the AFC West, will face the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon in their first game with interim head coach Antonio Pierce and under interim GM Champ Kelly.
