Mocs head coach Rusty Wright said that Alabama (10-1, 7-0 SEC) was the “hottest football team in the country.” Compared to the 62 players on the visiting sideline, 134 guys from the Tide were dressed for senior day. Tens of thousands of applauding fans witnessed a stark demonstration of the economics of college football.

The result was always certain, as Wright stated after the game. However, Chattanooga had a chance to keep it closer than the scoreboard’s 66-10 final result indicated.

“I have nothing much to say. Wright began his postgame analysis with the words, “We got our ass kicked.” “… knew it would be difficult. We are unable to make interceptions. They are not allowed to return punts. We never would have altered the result, but we could have done things more effectively. There are elements that we cannot control that could create life. That was today’s objective.

“As coaches, we could have occasionally been a bit wiser in certain circumstances, but we weren’t. We were foolish. And it’s really that easy. We were about as foolish as anybody can get under certain circumstances.

Wright was clearly pleased with his team’s effort. The Mocs trailed 21 points early in the game after only gaining 13 yards in the first quarter. However, they rallied with a more competitive second quarter in which they generated 90 yards compared to 134 for Alabama. In the end, Chattanooga was unable to compete with Jermaine Burton of Alabama on the perimeter or the five ball carriers for UA who had at least forty running yards.
