A power ranking of the top 10 golfers set to compete at the John Deere Classic, a PGA Tour event at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

On the PGA Tour, it’s tractor time. It’s almost time for the 53rd John Deere Classic.

Prior to the current title sponsor joining the event in 1999, the competition was known as the Quad Cities Open.

At that point, TPC Deere Run was chosen to host the John Deere Classic.

This 7,257-yard, par-71 course designed by D.A. Weibring features tree-lined, parkland-style surroundings.

This is a very scoreable course when played from the fairway. Generally, the wide greens are gradual and gentle. There is no shortage of water, trees, or other obstacles that penalize you if you are off line off the tee or on approach.

This event benefits from its new position, which is two weeks ahead of The Open Championship instead of the traditional week prior. Of course, that hasn’t significantly altered the field strength. Big names would have to participate in the Genesis Scottish Open three weeks in a row, with a major event the following week.

The galleries will be happy to see some newcomers this week, though, as you can see in the power rankings. There are also several well-known, elderly faces.

Although there is a risk of rain on Tuesday and Thursday, the rest of the week appears to be nice with temperatures between the mid-60s and mid-80s Fahrenheit and little to no wind. Scores should be low and the course should be lush and soft as usual.
