On Sunday afternoon, the Premier League’s West Midlands Derby pits Wolves against Aston Villa at Molineux.

Due to Villa’s victory over HSK Zrinjski Mostar in the Europa Conference League, the game was postponed to Sunday. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, John McGinn scored to start the Villains’ European season.

Wolves and Aston Villa clash at Molineux in the West Midlands Derby on Sunday in an afternoon kick-off in the Premier League.

The match had been moved to Sunday to allow Villa enough recovery following their Europa Conference League win over HSK Zrinjski Mostar. John McGinn netted in the fourth minute of stoppage time to get the Villains’ European campaign up and running.

Both teams secured big wins last weekend in their own right. Villa hit Brighton & Hove Albion for six with Ollie Watkins scoring a hat-trick in front of England manager Gareth Southgate. The 27-year-old has been recalled to the Three Lions squad for the first time since March 2022, and has scored seven goals so far this term.

Across the Midlands at Molineux meanwhile, Wolves toppled the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. It was Pedro Neto’s work that forced Ruben Dias to put the ball into his own net to give Gary O’Neil’s side a dream start. Julian Alvarez equalised for Pep Guardiola’s side but they weren’t level for long as Hwang Hee-chan restored the hosts lead and there was no way back.

The table is sure to change before the two teams face off in their final game before the international break, however there are 10 places separating them. Villa are fifth on 15 points, whilst Wolves are on seven points. Both teams have some issues to address when it comes to team selection, though it’s Villa who have been hit the hardest.

Unai Emery: “His injury was very hard. “He’s been better and better, but he is not feeling 100 per cent comfortable to play.““We decided to stop some days, maybe one week or two weeks. “Hopefully he is being close again to being in the squad.” (Photo: Shaun Botterill/Getty Images)

Gary O’Neil said to the Express & Star that he’s still got a ‘way to go’ to get back to the levels of his pre-injury after recovering from an ACL injury. He said: “He’s training hard and working hard, but maybe we’ve not seen enough from him yet to feel he would be leading the line for 90 minutes.”He is yet to start in the Premier League but did net the winner against Everton in August.
