Luton Town hopes to be celebrating their return to the Premier League at the completion of the 2024–2025 campaign.
The Hatters made a strong effort in the 2023–24 season, but they were unable to maintain their Premier League status. As a result, they are now back in the Championship, and Rob Edwards will be hoping he can lead the team there at the first opportunity. Until now, Luton has been relatively quiet during this transfer window, with just two new players joining the team on free transfers: Reuell Walters and Shandon Baptiste. With one month remaining in the transfer window, Edwards and company will likely concentrate on more arrivals, but they may also need to start looking at contract extensions because the club has players in the final year.
With that said, here we have looked at the two Luton players who will exit Kenilworth Road in 2025 if nothing changes, as per Transfermarkt…
James Shea began his career at Arsenal and spent several years there, most of which saw him shipped out on loan to other clubs. Shea left the Gunners in 2013 and moved into non-league football, where he stayed until 2014, when he joined Wimbledon. Shea joined the Hatters in July 2017 after joining AFC Wimbledon on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old, who finished 41 games with 19 clean sheets, was a major factor in the team’s promotion to the second division that year.
However, that was the best thing that could have happened to Shea because during the next two seasons, he has only appeared in two games for the Hatters in an irregular role.
Shea is currently ranked third among goalies for the team, behind Tim Krul and Thomas Kaminski.
He will now play for Luton for the duration of the 2024–2025 season after agreeing to a fresh one-year contract in May of this year. Shea intends to increase the number of his 108 club appearances.
