Texas Longhorns Coach Steve Sarkisian Provides Injury Update on WR Xavier Worthy
A late injury occurred to Texas Longhorns receiver Xavier Worthy during Saturday’s Big 12 Championship.
ARLINGTON — Texas Longhorns receiver Xavier Worthy suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 49-21 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian provided an update on his star receiver after the game during ABC’s post-game interview on the field.
“He’s OK. X-rays are negative, so he’ll be OK,” Sarkisian told ABC.
Worthy, who has yet to miss a game this season despite dealing with minor ailments over the past few weeks, had to be helped back to the locker room with his arm around two Texas athletic trainers. He was later seen on the sideline using crutches with a boot on his left ankle. He finished the game with six catches for 86 yards.
Regardless of if Texas’ next game is a bowl game or a College Football Playoff Semifinal, Worthy will have tons of time to get healthy as the Longhorns prepare to close out their 2023 season.
During the regular season, Worthy posted 67 catches for 883 yards and five touchdowns. He also added 21 punt returns for 358 yards and a touchdown. His return yardage total was the most in the country this season.
Should Worthy miss any time for Texas’ next game, the Longhorns will continue to rely on receivers Adonai Mitchell and Jordan Whittington along with tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. All three had big days in Saturday’s win, helping Quinn Ewers break the Big 12 Championship passing record with 452 yards and four touchdowns.
