SAD NEWS: Leeds star key player will miss the rest of the season due to serious injury
Gus Poyet, a former assistant manager at Leeds United, predicts that his old team would exert every effort to keep Wilfried Gnonto on staff through the remainder of the current campaign. During the summer, the Italian international attempted to get out of Elland Road, but he has since apologized and earned a spot in Daniel Farke’s starting lineup.
Since the transfer market closed, the young Italian has been a mainstay in the Whites starting XI. He had something to prove to the fans to earn their faith again. Gnonto sustained an injury during the 3-0 victory over Millwall earlier this month, keeping him out of the wins over Watford and Hull City.
Gnonto remains one of the most valuable assets in the Leeds United squad, but it’s for that reason Poyet has warned the club of an impending decision. The Whites were clear in their stance that Gnonto was not for sale, but that didn’t stop Premier League side Everton in their pursuit.
Poyet said the team will need to assess Gnonto’s relevance to the squad and how useful money from a prospective sale would be for the club. A number of Bundesliga teams and Italian clubs were allegedly interested in signing the teenage forward.
Former Brighton and Sunderland manager, “The coach will always try his hardest to keep a player like Wilfried Gnonto,” stated Football League World.
He must weigh the value of the money to the club against the value of the player to the team; it is a challenging dilemma. When you have a player of that caliber, you want to hang onto them at least through the season’s end.
