Nayef Aguerd cannot leave West Ham United during the January transfer window without paying a “huge fee,” according to the club.
In a recent article, Football Insider claimed that the Hammers were not interested in selling the Moroccan international on the cheap.
It is evident that West Ham’s number 27 is getting some high-profile interest after being connected with Premier League powerhouses Liverpool and Manchester City as well as clubs in Saudi Arabia’s rich Pro League during the summer transfer season.
Aguerd, 27, has been instrumental in the Londoners’ great start to the new 2023–24 season. He has forged a strong connection with fellow center back Kurt Zouma, as evidenced by the fact that his absence on Game Week 3 coincided with the team’s lone loss of the year (3-1 vs. Brighton).
Although the defender may be on the radar of other clubs, the Hammers face a possibility of losing one of their greatest players because his contract isn’t slated to expire until 2027.
When the January transfer window opens at the beginning of the following year, any side that tries to lure the 27-year-old away from the London Stadium will be required to pay a sizable fee.
Aguerd moved to Stade Rennes in a £30 million transfer last summer (Sky Sports). The center back played in 33 games in all competitions during his first season in the Premier League, scoring three goals along the way.

West Ham summer signing Edson Alvarez admits move to London Stadium was inexplicable at the time
After a trade to Borussia Dortmund fell through, Edson Alvarez spoke openly about his decision to join West Ham United.
West Ham purchased Edson Alvarez from Ajax in the summer for about £34 million, which appears to be a steal.
His performance against Luton a few weeks ago was just fantastic, and we certainly have a wonderful player on our hands.
In fact, with Declan Rice gone and Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse in the middle of the park, we appear to be a stronger team unit.
But how is the Mexican faring in East London?
Summer signing for West Ham United Edson Alvarez confesses that his move to London Stadium seemed puzzling at the time.
The 25-year-old spoke to the Mexican National Team’s YouTube page on his summer move from Ajax to West Ham.
And he admits that his Hammers move was a bit of a blur:
I have no doubts that Alvarez will go on to become a Hammers hero.
The Mexican is a fierce tackler who plays with genuine passion, commitment, and heart – three qualities that West Ham fans admire in their players.
He has already integrated easily into the Hammers squad, and he will play an important part this season if we are to achieve success on all fronts.
What a bargain he has proven to be for only £34 million – undoubtedly one of the best signings in the Premier League this summer.
Let’s hope Edson Alvarez continues to improve for West Ham over the next three years, and that the £34 million we paid for him turns out to be the steal of the century.
