Jonas Brodin left tonight’s game in the third period after taking a hit by Evander Kane.

After Ryan Donato’s hit on them last Sunday, the Wild came dangerously close to losing Jared Spurgeon. After leaving the game, the Wild captain came back, and everything has been good ever since.

The Wild lost Jonas Brodin on Friday night against the Oilers when Edmonton’s Evander Kane punched him.

For a considerable amount of time, Brodin, 30, has been regarded as one of the NHL’s top defensive defenseman. If the 6-foot-1 defenseman is gone for an extended period of time, the Wild will have serious concerns going ahead. He exited the game and did not return.

Regretfully, Ryan Hartman’s fall on Kane resulted in a penalty call seconds after Kane’s hit went uncalled. The Oilers ultimately won the game with a 4-3 advantage after scoring early on a power play.

The Wild not only dropped their second consecutive game, 4-3, but they may also lose Brodin for an extended period of time, which would be a major setback for the back end.

I would imagine the NHL Player Safety will look at this for a suspension on Kane who has been fined and suspended many times by the NHL Player Safety organization.

But even if he isn’t suspended I would think there will be a fine for his blatantly obvious check from behind into the boards.
