Sad News for The Reds as they……

In the fifth inning of High-A Greenville’s 8-4 victory over Asheville on Saturday, Cutter Coffey launched a two-run home bomb to left-center field. The right-handed hitter, who is 20 years old, has hit a home run in six straight games. During that span, he is 11 for 24 with seven home runs, one double, and 17 RBIs.

Boston chose Coffey, a 2022 graduate of Bakersfield, California’s Liberty High School, in the second round (41st overall). In 99 games (428 plate appearances) between Low-A Salem and High-A Greenville last year, he batted just.210 with a.325 on-base percentage,.315 slugging percentage,.640 OPS, six home runs, 16 doubles, two triples, 35 RBIs, 59 runs, 56 walks, and 100 strikeouts. Despite having a difficult start to the season, he has since gone on a hot streak, with his slash line standing at.232/.313/.507/.820 in 35 games (160 plate appearances). The 190-pound, 6-foot-1 player also possesses some quickness. This season, he has stolen four bases, compared to 19 last year. This season, he has started 16 games at third base, 13 games at shortstop, 2 games at second base, and 4 games at designated hit man.

Pitching prospect David Sandlin of the Red Sox made his comeback from the disabled list on Saturday, reportedly hitting a fastball that reached 99 mph, per the broadcast. Starting for Greenville, the 23-year-old righty pitched 1 ⅔ innings (35 pitches). He struck out two and gave up two runs on three hits (including a two-run home run) with no walks. Due to tightness in his forearm, he had been on the disabled list since May 14.

On February 17, Boston acquired the righty from the Royals in exchange for reliever John Schreiber. He is ranked as the Red Sox’s No. 9 prospect by SoxProspects.com. He is ranked No. 11 on Baseball America’s list of the Red Sox Top 30 prospects. Sandlin made his first 100 mph run in an off-season workout. Twenty-year-old Venezuelan  Paez replaced Sandlin and recorded five strikeouts in five and a half innings. He surrendered four hits, two runs, and no walks.
