MIAMI, FLA. For Media Day, Jimmy Butler debuted a new style, and the NBA community was quick to notice.
The Miami Heat forward showed up for the team’s first official day of work this season with piercings in his eye, lip, and nose as well as a new hairdo and black-painted fingernails.
For Butler, who deviated from his typical appearance last year by attending Media Day with dreadlocks, it’s kind of become a pattern.
“Right now, I’m feeling quite emotional. I enjoy being in my emo mood right now. I am this,” Butler remarked. This is how I’ve been feeling lately.
It appeared that teammates were a little taken off guard. When a reporter showed him pictures of Butler’s outfit for the day, Heat center Bam Adebayo—who hadn’t seen his buddy before meeting with reporters—thought someone had altered something.
Adebayo exclaimed, “That is not real. That is (expletive) hilarious.”
The future of Butler’s appearance when Miami begins practice on Tuesday is still unknown. At Florida Atlantic University in nearby Boca Raton, the team will hold camp.
CONKOKO OUT
The Toronto Raptors’ training camp won’t feature Christian Koloko. His “ongoing respiratory issues” are still a problem, according to the team, and he won’t be taking part in the Tuesday practices in Vancouver.
In his first season, he had a 3.1 point and 2.9 rebound average.
