Reports: Hugo Lloris is ‘very close’ to transfer – Spurs do want a fee for him though
The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham want some sort of transfer fee for Hugo Lloris amidst Lazio’s interest in the goalkeeper, while Gianluca Di Marzio says the Frenchman is very close to completing the move.
It has been an open secret since the start of the summer that Lloris‘ 11-year spell at Tottenham is about to come to an end this summer, with Guglielmo Vicario taking over the number-one spot from the Frenchman at Spurs.
Earlier today, we relayed an update from Gianluca Di Marzio, who claimed that Spurs had agreed to terminate the goalkeeper’s contract, with Lazio keen on signing him.
The journalist added that the 36-year-old was in conversation with the Italian club, with the two parties said to be close to agreeing on a two-year contract.
Tottenham want a transfer fee for Hugo Lloris
However, this claim has been contradicted by The Evening Standard, who assert that Tottenham have not yet agreed to terminate the 12 months left in Lloris’ contract.
The publication states that the North London side would ideally like to get a transfer fee for their former captain while Lazio are ‘pushing’ to sign the veteran on a free transfer.
Di Marzio claims Lazio are now ‘very close’ to completing the signing and just need to come to an agreement on personal terms.
Tottenham would look to secure a modest fee for Lloris but if the goalkeeper expresses a clear intention to join the Serie A club and if the Italian side refuses to pay a fee, I do think Spurs will budge and terminate the goalkeeper’s contract as s gesture of thanks for the service he has given to the club.
