Special’ player is in talks to leave Everton now, two mystery clubs are trying to sign him
Fulham have opened talks with Everton over a move for Alex Iwobi.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who have reported that two unnamed clubs are also interested in signing the midfielder.
Marco Silva signed Iwobi from Arsenal in a £34m deal in 2019 and was a regular under the 46-year-old until he was sacked only four months later.
Iwobi has since made over 100 appearances in the Premier League for the Toffees, scoring six goals and providing eleven assists.
The Nigerian started Everton’s two opening games of the current campaign before picking up a hamstring injury, though he may well have made his last appearance for the club.
Iwobi’s contract at Goodison Park is set to expire next summer and he is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms. The Liverpool Echo reported a year ago that the Toffees had opened talks with the 27-year-old, but he so far hasn’t committed his future to the Merseyside outfit.
As a result, it looks like they could now be prepared to cash in on the ‘special’ midfielder after entering negotiations over his exit. It is unclear who Fulham are facing in competition for his signature, though the report claims one is in the Premier League and the other is a European club.
Is it worth Everton selling Alex Iwobi to Fulham?
Everton certainly won’t gain anywhere near the fee they paid for Iwobi four years ago, though they will be eager to add to their funds as they look to make the finishing touches to their squad before deadline day.
Fulham certainly have plenty of money to splash following Aleksandar Mitrovic’s big money move to Saudi Arabia.
Iwobi’s departure would not be ideal in the final few days of the window, with it looking unlikely that Everton actually have a midfielder lined up to replace him.
