Liverpool faces another tricky away fixture in the opening weeks of the new season, with Jürgen Klopp’s side set to take on Newcastle United a fortnight after drawing with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
In between those matches was a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth. Despite being sent off in that game, Alexis Mac Allister will be available here after the suspension for that red card was successfully appealed.
Ibrahima Konaté, though, is set to be missing with an injury. Klopp gave an update in his pre-match press conference on Friday, stating that it was a ‘muscle’ issue for the French defender. In his absence, Joël Matip is likely to be fielded, with Joe Gomez another alternative who could be considered alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Thiago Alcântara and Curtis Jones are both set to miss the game as well. The midfield duo will be back in training on Monday, Klopp confirmed, but are not set to be involved here.
Instead, Wataru Endō could make his full debut, allowing Mac Allister to play a bit higher up the pitch alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, potentially forming a midfield trio of all Liverpool’s summer signings.
Up front, Darwin Núñez will be hoping for a first start of the season but he must fight with Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo for the number nine role. Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah are certainties to begin the game.
