Anthony Gordon to miss Everton clash as Newcastle United suffer quadruple injury blow
Everton face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Tuesday night
Former Everton winger Anthony Gordon will miss the upcoming game against his former club on Tuesday night after he was sent off on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues will head to St James’ Park on Tuesday for another game in the space of three days. The Magpies were in lunchtime action against West Ham United and produced a sensational comeback to defeat David Moyes’ side 4-3.
However, Gordon received his marching orders during stoppage time for the accumulation of two yellow cards. The 23-year-old was initially booked for a challenge on Mohammed Kudus during the second-half.
Gordon then picked up his second booking of the contest for kicking the ball away in stoppage time, with his side 4-3 ahead. The absence of the forward will only add to Eddie Howe’s worries.
For the game against the Hammers, the Magpies boss was without eight senior players for the clash. The situation, however, got worse during Saturday’s victory as club captain Jamaal Lascelles was first forced off after just 11 minutes.
Then Emil Krafth, who replaced Lascelles at right-back, lasted only 40 minutes on the pitch after picking up an injury. Miguel Almiron, who replaced Tino Livramento after he picked up a knock, was also forced off through injury.
On fresh injuries, Howe told BBC Match of the Day: “It’s been the story of our season. Unfortunately, we were getting hit left right and centre today. We were 1-0 up and then Jamaal went off. Miggy goes off, Anthony is sent off, Tino goes off.
“It is a catalogue one after another but the players we brought on made a positive impact and that’s the beauty of our squad.”
