‘Magnificent’ 29-year-old now has the chance to leave Newcastle this week

While the English transfer window closed last week, Newcastle United are still susceptible to players leaving the club this month.

Isaac Hayden is due to sign for Standard Liege on loan, but he is not the only Magpie who could be on his way out of St James’ Park.

Jamaal Lascelles has been linked with a move away from Tyneside this summer, but deadline day brought news that Eddie Howe wanted to keep him at the club.

That stance could soon be put to the test, with Lascelles due to have the chance to call time on his Newcastle career and move elsewhere.

They will have to act fast, as the Saudi transfer window is due to close on September 7th. That means that they need to make their mind up and make a move if they really want to try and tempt Newcastle into selling their captain.

Lascelles made his first appearance of the season on Saturday. He came off the bench during the Magpies’ 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

His minutes are expected to be limited this season, while it has been suggested that he will not be handed a contract extension as he enters the final year of his Toon deal.

With that in mind, it would be easy to understand why Lascelles would be tempted by a move away over the next few days.

From Newcastle’s perspective, it would be a risk to sell now. Howe has previously called Lascelles ‘magnificent‘, and you have to imagine he will want him to stay now there is no chance of signing a replacement.
