During a basketball game between Jersey and Guernsey, a basketball player collapsed and died.
Guillaume Hoareau passed out during Saturday’s game at Fort Regent, the Jersey Basketball Association reported. He went into cardiac arrest and passed away in the hospital not long after. The Jersey Basketball Association released the following statement on social media: “As Guillaume was fit, healthy, and not known to have any underlying health problems, it is currently unclear why this happened.”
It was also revealed in the post that the coaching team would be able to “process the loss of their dear friend and colleague” as all training had been postponed until after half term. In addition to being a member of the men’s island team, Mr. Hoareau coached young basketball players. The Jersey Basketball Association’s president, Paul Milbank, stated: “We are all very shocked by Guillaume’s passing. G played a significant role in our basketball community. “He served as a mentor and source of motivation for our players, both senior and junior. He had a strong desire to see basketball on the island improved. At the Island Games, he enthusiastically represented Jersey and the children he coached.”
“Beyond his official roles, G was our friend, our brother, and our community’s lifeblood,” he continued. For so many years, his enthusiasm, zeal, and boundless spirit have brought us so much joy and satisfaction. We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his wife and their small family, and we promise to support them in their time of need. We also extend our sincere condolences to his friends, colleagues at RBC, and extended family.
