Victim had been diving for golf balls in the course lake as part of a charity event
A man from North Antrim and his business are going to go on trial for alleged health and safety violations related to a diver’s death in a golf course lake.
Tom Kieran Best (38), who was present before Antrim Magistrates Court in Ballymena, acknowledged that he was aware of the charges against him and that, in his capacity as a director, he was permitted to appear on behalf of Golf Balls NI.
With an address on Woodtown Lane in Coleraine, both Golf Balls NI and its lone director are facing four charges apiece related to the event that occurred on October 26, 2021, at the Hilton Hotel in Templepatrick.
Along with three other comparable violations of diving regulations, the organization is accused of neglecting to guarantee the health, safety, and welfare of non-employees.
Emergency services were called to the area after hearing claims that a man had entered the water, albeit none of the purported facts were presented in court at the time.
The man, who has not been identified, is believed to have been participating in a charity fundraising initiative by diving for golf balls in the course lake. During the Monday court proceedings, the prosecutor presented a Prima Facie case against Mr. Best and his company, which defense attorney Garrett McCann accepted. District Judge Nigel Broderick then returned the case to Antrim Crown Court, releasing the defendant on a £500 bond, with the arraignment set for September 12.
