Liverpool ‘closely monitoring’ PSG midfielder

The last few months have seen Liverpool linked with a large number of potential midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea’s Mason Mount, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister are three names who have dominated the Liverpool rumor mill in recent weeks, But whether there is any real truth behind the speculation remains to be seen.

One of the latest reports concerns Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches. It has been reported by Football Insider that Liverpool is considering making a move for the Portugal international this summer.

The article claims that Liverpool are ‘closely monitoring’ Sanches with a view to a potential move this summer. It has also been reported that PSG themselves are considering letting the midfielder leave the club at the end of the season.

Sanches only moved to PSG last summer from Lille, where at the time Liverpool then linked with signing him. And if the reports are to be believed, the Reds have kept track of the midfielder’s progress despite the player moving to a new club a year ago.

Friday saw Tottenham caretaker boss Ryan Mason confirm that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will not be available to face Liverpool. The France international was replaced at half-time during Spurs’ 6-1 defeat to Newcastle last Sunday, and did not feature on Thursday in the draw with Manchester United.

As a result, Fraser Forster is in line to stand in for Lloris as Tottenham’s goalkeeper against Liverpool on Sunday.

“Hugo won’t be available for Sunday,” Mason told reporters in his press conference on Friday.

He added: “The other injuries we assess day by day. The lads haven’t trained yet — they’ve just reported now — and we’re going to see how they’re feeling in terms of training this afternoon and tomorrow leading into the game.”
