In a recent statement, a resolute Ken Hinkley expressed his renewed vigor following a short break after the finals. The Port Adelaide coach aims to emulate Brisbane’s Chris Fagan by finally clinching a championship title. After steering the Power to a top-four finish, Hinkley faced the pressure of a potential exit had the team not advanced in the finals. However, he now looks forward to his thirteenth season at the helm, still hungry for a Grand Final appearance.

Hinkley’s journey through the finals was marked by a dramatic semi-final victory over Hawthorn, which elicited mixed reactions due to his emotional display, followed by a decisive loss to Sydney in the preliminary final. While speculation swirled about his future, the club’s decision to retain him sets the stage for a renewed campaign in 2025, the final year of his current contract.

On FIVEaa radio, Hinkley conveyed his optimism for the upcoming season. “It can be exhausting at times, but a few days off has me feeling rejuvenated,” he stated. He emphasized his commitment to the club and his unwillingness to step back from the challenge ahead. Hinkley noted the importance of persistence, citing his friendship with Fagan as a source of inspiration. “You have to keep showing up,” he affirmed, indicating his intent to maintain high energy and determination as he pursues success.

At 58, Hinkley acknowledges the ongoing scrutiny surrounding his tenure, particularly as he now holds the record for the most V/AFL games coached without reaching a Grand Final. Nonetheless, he remains focused on improving the club and striving for excellence. His positive outlook stems from observing Fagan’s success at an older age, reinforcing his belief that perseverance will ultimately pay off.

Looking ahead, Port Adelaide is reportedly interested in acquiring Gold Coast’s Jack Lukosius during the trade period. Meanwhile, dual All-Australian Dan Houston’s potential move to Victoria is also on the horizon, alongside possible interest in players like Collingwood’s Joe Richards and the Western Bulldogs’ Riley Garcia. Hinkley’s strategic planning reflects a commitment to bolster the team as they aim to make a strong statement in the upcoming season.
