Peter Nicol aims to elevate the popularity of squash by opening a new club in New Jersey that combines squash, padel, and pickleball. This innovative facility is designed to leverage the growing interest in racket sports, creating a vibrant environment for enthusiasts.
As a Scottish athlete now residing in the U.S., Nicol is excited to unveil his second venture, which stands out as the first facility of its kind to integrate indoor squash, padel, and pickleball. This groundbreaking club will feature four pickleball courts, three squash courts, and two top-tier indoor padel courts, setting a precedent in the world of racket sports.
Looking ahead, Nicol plans to expand the facility with the addition of two outdoor courts for padel and pickleball in 2025. The Nicol club will operate as a public venue, offering a blend of membership options and pay-as-you-go access, making it accessible to a wider audience.
Despite the rise of racket sports in the U.S., squash often finds itself overlooked. Nicol believes that his initiative can revitalize interest in the sport, positioning it as a key player in the expanding racket sports community. “People are drawn to racquet sports for the competition and the sense of community,” he remarked, highlighting the importance of social interaction in sports.
Jess Winstanley, Nicol’s wife, emphasized their commitment to accessibility, stating, “While some country clubs have combined these sports, they often remain exclusive. Our goal is to bring this experience to the public in a profitable setting, broadening the appeal of squash and integrating it into the larger conversation surrounding racket sports.”
