“On and off the pitch”- Son Heung-min reveals what he told teammates just before Tottenham captaincy
Official: Son Heung-min has been named the new captain of Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea ready to sell English international on Tottenham Hotspur shortlist
Following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and the impending departure of Hugo Lloris from the club,
it became clear that Tottenham Hotspur had to make a decision on who the new captain of the club would be.
It looks like the title has rightfully gone to Son Heung-min. The South Korean superstar has been at the club since
2015 and as one of the longest-serving and most impressive members of the squad, he deserves to be named captain.
Son will in turn be assisted by Cristian Romero and James Maddison who have been named his deputies. Romero
has been at the club for a couple of seasons now and although Maddison is new, he comes with a wealth of
experience.
A case could have been made for someone like Eric Dier or Ben Davies to be given the vice-captaincy ahead of
Maddison due to their longevity at the club but both players are not sure starters and it would not have made much
sense in the longer run.
Speaking about being given the captaincy, here is what the South Korean had to say
It is fitting that after all these years of service for the club, Son Heung-min is now the new Tottenham captain. For
much of his time, he has always been in the shadow of Harry Kane, who is the local lad and now, he finally has the
limelight.
Except for the previous season where he was surprisingly disappointing by his own lofty standards, the 31-year-old
has been the epitome of consistency and there is no doubt that he will come back stronger this season.
Now, Son is not the quintessential vocal captain that you see going around but we have seen in the past that there are
certain players who when bestowed upon with captaincy, lead the team from the front with their performances.
- Bayern Munich want Tottenham Hotspur target Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven
- Richarlison backed to replace Bayern Munich-bound Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur
-
- Tottenham want Perr Schurrs to partner Micky van de Ven
Ange Postecoglou has made the right decision and appointed Son as captain for the club. As we begin our new
era under a new coach and new captain today against Brentford, let’s hope this is the start of something really
special.
