Former Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has reportedly declined the opportunity to take charge of the Denmark national team as he’s currently engaged in negotiations with a top football club. Solskjaer, who has been without a managerial role since his departure from Manchester United in November 2021, has turned down multiple offers over the years, including approaches from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Since parting ways with United, the 51-year-old Norwegian coach has been linked to various managerial positions, including MLS side Charlotte FC and Leicester City, who recently secured promotion back to the Premier League. Despite these connections, Solskjaer has not yet committed to a new team.
According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the Danish Football Association (DBU) reached out to Solskjaer for talks following Kasper Hjulmand’s resignation after Denmark’s disappointing performance at Euro 2024. However, Solskjaer declined the offer as he’s currently in discussions with a ‘major’ club regarding a head coaching role.
In a recent public appearance at the Oslo Business Forum, Solskjaer shared his ongoing desire to return to coaching, hinting at the prospect of managing again if the right opportunity arises. He emphasized his passion for the high-pressure environment of football management, especially after his tenure at Manchester United. During another event in New Delhi earlier this year, Solskjaer mentioned he was still seeking a challenging role where he could embrace the excitement and intensity that comes with managing a top club.
It remains unclear which major club Solskjaer is in talks with, but the former United boss has expressed a strong desire to return to the sidelines and lead a team on an exciting new journey. His experience at one of the world’s biggest clubs has left him eager for a similar challenge, and fans are eagerly waiting to see where he will end up next.
