Lions coach Dan Campbell is seizing the chance to disprove pessimists.

The Detroit Lions are surrounded by a lot of negativity, but head coach Dan Campbell is excited about the possibilities this squad has.

Not that the Detroit Lions are in a terrible place at the moment. They top their division by 2.5 games, are 8-3 overall, and are the third seed in the NFC. The only team with a larger division advantage than Detroit at the moment is the Miami Dolphins.

However, the Lions’ performance over the last two weeks has raised some doubts among analysts and alarm among supporters. In Week 11, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears with a dramatic, game-ending comeback, and on Thanksgiving, they dominated Detroit on both sides of the ball.

The Lions defense has seemed quite shaky throughout. The Lions defense has ranked 30th in DVOA and 32nd in anticipated scores added per play since their Week 7 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. In the meantime, during the last four games, the Lions offense has turned the ball over ten times. They have won three of their previous four games, but to put it simply, they are not playing their best football at the moment.

Coach Dan Campbell of the Lions, though, isn’t worried. He’s actually welcoming it.

The one constant from those first two years is that the Lions have played their best football in December, something which Campbell believes this team can do again.

“There’s teams that will begin to rise and teams that will fall out of this. And I love our team,” Campbell said. “I love where we’re at and I know the guys that we have in the locker room, I know these coaches, so this will be good.”
