Jack Campbell performs well, but the Eagles defeat the Condors 2-1.
Tuesday’s 2-1 setback against the Eagles at home came despite one of Jack Campbell’s greatest games to date for the Condors.
Tuesday’s puck drop was early due to Field Trip Day, which occurred at 10:30 am. This might be the reason for the Condors’ seeming lack of energy throughout their attacking attempts in their 2-1 loss against the Eagles.
Although we are being a little tongue-in-cheek, the fact remains that Trent Miner was the game’s First Star and the Condors had a difficult time getting past him. Ultimately, the Eagles goaltender was only defeated once by the hosts that day.
Jack Campbell was the reason the Condors were able to hang on for the victory. He kept his club in the game with one of his greatest performances throughout his time in Bakersfield, especially in the first forty minutes when the Eagles outshot their opponents 28–18.
With little over a minute remaining in the second period, Oskar Olausson’s sixth AHL goal of the year gave the Eagles the lead. It’s true that you might argue he shouldn’t have scored from such a distance, but two of his players only half covered Campbell.
Still, at 13:15 in the second period, the Condors provided the 8,533 students there a reason to celebrate. Philip Broberg scored his first goal in the AHL this season by extending his reach and deflecting a right wing feed from Cameron Wright.
After entering the final period, the Condors stepped up their efforts as they looked for the winner. They would outshot the Eagles 14-6 in the last 20 minutes, but just couldn’t get that crucial goal.
