Nottingham Forest have now made contact with Leeds over the signing of Tyler Adams this summer. The Reds are keen to sign a defensive midfielder before the season starts, with the American in their sights.
According to the Daily Mail, Forest are one of several clubs to have ramped up their interest in Adams. He’s also wanted by Brighton, West Ham and Chelsea before the window closes.
Forest are still desperately trying to strengthen their own squad. A defensive midfielder is thought to be the priority and Ibrahim Sangare is the number one target.
The PSV star will cost Forest £32 million though and it won’t be an easy deal to do. Adams is a fallback option for the Reds and his relegation release clause is thought to be in the region of £20 million.
The Reds have only signed two players so far this summer. Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga have both checked in and more players will need to follow.
Adams has been on the Forest radar since the season finished. Leeds were relegated back to the Championship and naturally, they will now be at the mercy of Premier League clubs.
The central midfielder is 24-years-old and has 36 caps for his country. When fit, he captains the USA and last season he was considered one of the top-performing defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
Last season, Adams was raved about by Stephen Warnock. After Leeds beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield, the pundit called him ‘magnificent’ for his heroic performance.
Forest now make contact to sign Tyler Adams from Leeds
Perhaps Forest are now ready to move on from Sangare. Maybe, he just needs too much convincing at this stage, with the Reds now ready to turn to their next target instead.
Leeds would dearly like to keep hold of Adams. Although he’d be capable of taking the Championship by storm, that could be taken out of their hands if someone activates his release clause.
Forest will be powerless in the Adams race if the other three clubs are serious about doing a deal. All the Reds can hope is that they’re not quite as desperate for a defensive midfielder as Fores in the coming weeks.
The Reds haven’t currently got the player at the top of their list of priorities; with a goalkeeper taking that place. However, it looks as though a defensive midfielder won’t be far behind, with Forest now contacting Leeds for Adams
