Maria Tviberg, the talented Norwegian alpine skier, has announced her retirement from professional skiing. Reflecting on her journey, Tviberg shared her deep appreciation for the experiences and achievements she garnered throughout her career. “I am thankful for everything I have experienced as an athlete and proud of what I managed to accomplish,” Tviberg said. Although she will miss her teammates and the thrill of competition each winter weekend, she feels a sense of pride in making this decision now and cherishes the moments she has had, especially in the latter part of her career.

Tviberg’s career was marked by both significant injuries and remarkable successes. She secured a world title in parallel giant slalom in 2023 and was part of the silver medal-winning team in the team parallel event at the same championships held in Meribel, France. Her accomplishments also include a bronze medal in the team parallel event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Beijing and a career-best fifth-place finish in the World Cup at Soelden in 2021.

Despite the numerous setbacks from injuries, Tviberg’s resilience and determination to return to the slopes have been nothing short of impressive. Claus Johan Ryste, Head of Alpine Skiing at the Norwegian Ski Association, expressed admiration for Tviberg’s perseverance. “Maria has performed at the highest level across all disciplines for about a decade. Her ability to overcome serious injuries and her unwavering energy and determination will be greatly missed. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”
