Nottingham Forest ex-player makes fantastic player transfer prediction amid £50m speculation

Brennan Johnson transfer prediction made by Nottingham Forest old boy amid £50m talk

Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive amid transfer speculation over the future of Reds star Brennan Johnson this summer

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis McGugan has admitted that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Brennan Johnson leaves the Reds this summer.

Forest have reportedly rejected a near-£40million bid for Johnson from Premier League rivals Brentford. It is the second time this summer that Brentford have made a bid for the 22-year-old, with a £30m offer turned down by Forest when the summer transfer window opened.

It is said that Forest value their academy graduate at £50m and a bid worth more than that could reportedly be “too difficult to turn down” as Financial Fair Play features heavily in their thinking and strategy. And McGugan believes that “something will happen” this summer amid speculation over the 22-year-old’s future at the City Ground.

“I don’t think he signs a new deal, that’s my opinion,” he told the Garibaldi Red Podcast. “I feel that there’s a lot more in it. Brentford are coming back with, okay It’s not in Forests valuation, but it’s still really, really big money and they ain’t gonna do that if they’re not feeling like there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

“But I think from Forest’s point of view there’s a chance that he will go. When you look at Elanga, is he the type to look to replace Brennan? He will play in a similar position.

“I always go back to the point that I made last year that the times that he was left out of the big games, they will have a massive effect and they would have had an effect and sometimes people and fans might want to look at that and not think that, but all players have egos and that’s what it is.
