Rotherham United v Norwich City: Follow live Championship updates
Norwich City travel to Rotherham United this afternoon hoping to head into the season’s first international break with their unbeaten record intact.
David Wagner’s side have taken 10 points from a possible 12 and sit pretty in second in the early season rankings behind Leicester.
Rotherham are still searching for their first league win of the campaign under Matt Taylor but have shown signs of promise in recent performances against Leicester and Sunderland.
Wagner is wary of the strength that Rotherham possess at the New York Stadium, describing them as a different proposition home and away.
Norwich bounce into the game in high spirits and off the back of a hectic Deadline Day.
City were active until the bitter end of the transfer window – notably selling highly rated defender Andrew Omobamidele to Nottingham Forest in a deal that could reach £20m if add-ons are achieved.
The Canaries also brought in a striker – Ui-jo Hwang on loan from Nottingham Forest – to fill the void left by Josh Sargent after his serious ankle ligament injury. Danny Batth was also recruited at the 11th hour on a free transfer from Sunderland.
Both were signed too late to feature in Yorkshire – but will link up with their new teammates during the international break.
Norwich will be without winger Onel Hernandez, who is still unavailable due to his hand injury. Borja Sainz, Jacob Sorensen and Jonathan Tomkinson should also be available to Wagner the other side of the pause of internationals.
Sargent’s injury is expected to keep him sidelined for the foreseeable future. Wagner is expected to confirm post-match the full timeline and whether he requires surgery after sustaining the injury in City’s 4-0 Huddersfield win last weekend.
Grant Hanley remains sidelined with an achilles injury but has begun tentatively working his way to full fitness and was photographed running at Colney. His return is still considered to be a way off.
Rotherham added Exeter’s Sam Nombe on Deadline Day as a new record signing and he could feature. Norwich are also set for a reunion with Jordan Hugill, who joined the Millers from City in January.
