According to BILD, Leeds united’s only offer for Fortuna Dusseldorf star no Tanaka came through via email at £3.1 million.
Leeds United’s pursuit of midfielders saw them connected with a slew of players throughout the summer transfer window.
Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev eventually joineds squad. fo Daniel FarkeTanaka, a Japanese midfielder for 2.Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, was among the other players rumored to be on the Whites’ radar.
The scope of Leeds’ interest in the midfielder has now been revealed by German site BILD.
According to the report, the Championship club made an email approach of €3.7 million (about £3.1 million) for Tanaka. That was the lone bid received by Dusseldorf for the 25-year-old over the summer, resulting in him remaining at the club ahead of the new season.
Time will tell whether a further attempt is made in January, but if Tanaka wants to move on, he and his representatives may have to go out of their way to locate a club rather than waiting for interest.
Tanaka is coming off a goal in Japan’s 4-1 triumph against Germany last weekend. He would have been a fine addition to Leeds United’s midfield ranks in the summer, but his return this winter would be surprising.
With the additions of Kamara and Gruev, the Whites’ midfield is suddenly well-stocked. They signed alongside Ethan Ampadu in the summer, and Farke has adequate depth in the midfield with Jamie Shackleton, Darko Gyabi, Archie Gray, and Lewis Bate. ‘
Time will tell how the scenario develops, but if Leeds do make a January move, it would be surprising to see them acquire another midfielder unless one or two depart.
