Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United was the subject of inquiries from both Liverpool and Chelsea during the summer transfer window, according to Ben Jacobs. However, it now appears very probable that Guimaraes will sign a new contract to commit his future to the Magpies, and even though it would be against PIF policy, that contract might contain a release option, writes Jacobs in his exclusive CaughtOffside piece.

Due to the importance of Guimaraes to Newcastle, it may be understandable that they would be ready to make an exception to accommodate his demands. Additionally, a buy-out clause may allow Guimaraes to eventually transfer to a more reputable European powerhouse.

“Bruno Guimaraes is very close to agreeing to a new contract extension with Newcastle that could keep him with the team through the year 2028. Last week, with the European window closed, real progress was made, according to Jacobs.

“Due to Guimaraes’ current contract, which runs through 2026, Newcastle has maintained its composure in the face of the crisis. The Brazilian is not for sale, Chelsea and Liverpool were informed after asking.

The inclusion of a release provision in a new contract is anticipated, but interestingly, Newcastle’s approach has changed since PIF gained controlling control of the club.
