Coventry City midfielders Jamie Allen and Callum O’Hare both returned to full contact training this week, according to Mark Robins.

While O’Hare hasn’t swung an actual football in anger since his ACL ruptured on Boxing Day, Allen has been sidelined since the close season when he experienced a heart scare. But this week, when they were included in the first squad lineup at Ryton, the midfield duo made significant progress in their recovery from their individual problems.

In his pre-match press conference prior to Friday night’s game at Hull, the Sky Blues manager stated that Jamie was on the turf and appeared to be in fine condition.

He is performing his duties as you would anticipate, which is positive. His return is fantastic and a tremendous boost for everyone. Likewise, Callum O’Hare. He has participated this week and is now interacting with the main group.

Robins responded when asked about the next step for the two players, whether that be the physical aspect of getting up to speed as well as the mental hurdles associated with returning from their respective issues in terms of confidence to go into tackles for O’Hare and Allen knowing in his head that he’s OK. They are both in an excellent position. With what I’m observing, I’m pleased. They appear content where they are, in my opinion. Whatever time it takes for them to return, it will take.

When asked if Allen is returning before O’Hare, he responded, “Jamie’s not wounded and he’s never been hurt so by definition he’s ahead of Callum. However, as I previously stated, I don’t want to set deadlines for it since I believe it is unfair and the players will be ready when they are, both physically and mentally.
