Burnley boss Vincent Kompany provides Hjalmar Ekdal injury update after defender is stretchered off against Nottingham Forest
Vincent Kompany fears Hjalmar Ekdal might have suffered a bad knee injury during Burnley’s dramatic Carabao Cup win against Nottingham Forest.
Following a collision in the Burnley box, the defender needed oxygen on the field before being carried off by a stretcher.
In the last-second 1-0 victory that secured a trip to Salford City in the third round, Ekdal was one of three players forced to leave the game with injuries. Vitinho and Aaron Ramsay were also forced to leave the game.
Regarding the triple injury blow, Kompany stated, “One I think will be bad. “I’ll welcome any good news on it.
“We hope it’s not too bad for Vitinho. It appears to be knee for both from the photographs, however there are differing degrees and it might only be a minor strain for someone.
“We hope that things won’t be too bad for Ekdal. He required oxygen because, in my opinion, he was in a great deal of agony.
“I’m not a doctor, but in my experience, experiencing a lot of pain occasionally can be a good indicator. You don’t feel anything after everything has been torn away from the bone. Athletes are aware.
Nottingham, England – August 30, 2023: During the Carabao Cup Second Round game between Burnley and Nottingham Forest at City Ground on August 30, 2023 in Nottingham, England, an animated Vincent Kompany, Manager of Burnley, gives instructions to his players.
I sincerely hope it’s not too severe, but this game definitely had a price, Kompany continued.

Burnley’s hero was Zeki Amdouni, who scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time to give the Clarets their first victory of the year.
“Based on the performance, we are pleased to get what we deserved in terms of the result and a clean sheet,” Kompany continued.
“The win is wonderful for the guys, and it advances us to the next round. Who we play next will be anticipated by our supporters.
We were able to do a lot of damage when we rushed, and I thought we were decent on second balls and in duels.
We always give ourselves a chance when we are on the ball.
